If I could see things coming, In life's unexpected turns, I could douse the tender kindling Just before the fire burns; I could chose another pathway When a danger I foresaw; And avoid fate's evil dealings And escape without a flaw. But by stopping all my bleeding I erase the welcome stain Of the lessons learned from failure And the insights wrought from pain. The capacities of heart and soul So minimal would be Were God to grant my frequent prayer For power to foresee.
