‘Twas thee who gave to me my life, So if it now be taken, What right have I to feel abused, Abandoned or forsaken? Thy contract states no length of life That mortals may expect. Still, Thy agreement, made with man, Says Thou wilt not neglect The truer needs and core desires That fill the human heart; The plea for peace, the need to know This life is but a start. Thy purpose in all Thy creations, Say prophets both present and past, Is guiding Thy children to Thy precious fruit If on to Thy rod they hold fast. The beauties, the loves, the relations, Developed and here enjoyed, Thou makest more solid than granite, They never can be destroyed. Thy promise is clear and convincing To those who follow Thy Son, Our joy ceases not at our passing, For our living has only begun.
